Aba Resume: What to Show, What to Cut, What to Quantify
Build an ATS-ready aba resume with the right behavior analysis keywords, quantified bullets, skills, and a complete sample for online job portals.

Your aba resume needs to do two jobs quickly. It must show a hiring manager that you can deliver safe, consistent behavior support. It must also give an ATS clear text for credentials, methods, tools, populations, and job titles.
Lead with the exact role you want, such as Behavior Technician, Registered Behavior Technician, ABA Therapist, or Behavior Interventionist. Then prove your fit with client volume, data accuracy, treatment-plan work, caregiver contact, and measurable progress. A duty list is not enough.
What hiring managers and ATS look for
For ABA roles, hiring teams usually scan for:
- RBT or BCBA status, supervision hours, or relevant coursework
- Applied Behavior Analysis, behavior intervention plans, and behavior support plans
- Data collection, graphing, session notes, and electronic record systems
- Discrete Trial Training, natural environment teaching, task analysis, prompting, and reinforcement
- Functional communication training, replacement behaviors, and skill acquisition
- Experience with children, adolescents, adults, autism, developmental disabilities, or another stated population
- Safety, crisis prevention, de-escalation, HIPAA, and incident reporting
- Caregiver communication, team meetings, and collaboration with BCBAs, teachers, speech therapists, or occupational therapists
Read the job description before writing the resume. Copy only phrases that describe experience you actually have. A keyword should appear in a skills area and, when possible, in a bullet that gives evidence.
Target keyword set from typical ABA job postings
Use this as a starting set. Compare it with two or three postings for your target role and adjust the wording to match those postings.
| Keyword group | Phrases to check in the posting | Evidence to include |
|---|---|---|
| Job titles | Behavior Technician, Registered Behavior Technician, ABA Therapist, Behavior Interventionist | Your title, target title, and duties performed |
| Methods | Discrete Trial Training, natural environment teaching, task analysis, prompting, reinforcement | Sessions delivered, skills taught, and setting |
| Clinical work | Behavior intervention plan, functional behavior assessment, functional communication training, replacement behaviors | Plan implementation and client response |
| Data and tools | Data collection, session notes, graphing, electronic health record, Catalyst, CentralReach | Records completed, accuracy, system used |
| Safety and teamwork | Crisis prevention, de-escalation, caregiver training, BCBA collaboration, HIPAA | Training, incidents, meetings, and communication |
Do not list Catalyst, CentralReach, or another platform unless you used it. If you tracked data on paper or in a different system, name the real method instead.
A one-page aba resume outline
Use this order for most online applications:
- Name, city and state, phone, email, and LinkedIn if useful
- Target title and a three-line summary
- Hard skills and soft skills
- Certifications and education
- Professional experience, with the most relevant role first
- Additional training, languages, volunteer work, or clinical placements if relevant
Keep the document to one page when you can. A longer resume may make sense for an experienced BCBA or a candidate with extensive clinical work, but do not add unrelated history just to fill space.

Registered Behavior Technician | ABA Therapist
Sample three-line summary
Registered Behavior Technician with 3 years of experience supporting children ages 3 to 12 in clinic, home, and school settings.
Deliver discrete trial training, natural environment teaching, functional communication training, and behavior-plan interventions under BCBA supervision.
Completed 1,200+ sessions, maintained 98% session-note completion, and partnered with caregivers and school teams on replacement skills.
Sample skills block
Hard skills: Applied Behavior Analysis, discrete trial training, natural environment teaching, task analysis, prompting, reinforcement, functional communication training, replacement behaviors, behavior intervention plans, data collection, session notes, graphing, Catalyst, CentralReach, HIPAA, crisis prevention, de-escalation
Soft skills: caregiver communication, active listening, patience, observation, teamwork, documentation, schedule management, cultural awareness, problem solving, professional boundaries
Put the hard skills first because they carry more role-specific meaning. Soft skills should support the evidence in your bullets. “Patient” by itself is weak. A bullet showing how you kept a session on schedule while responding to challenging behavior is stronger.

The bullets below demonstrate scale, volume, time, quality, people, and outcomes. Treat them as a model, not as facts to copy.

- Supported 6 clients with autism and developmental disabilities across 20 to 24 weekly clinic sessions, implementing treatment targets and safety procedures set by the BCBA.
- Applied functional communication training, visual schedules, error correction, and reinforcement to reduce task refusal and increase independent requests.
- Collected session data across 15 active skill-acquisition and behavior-reduction targets, then reviewed graphs during weekly supervision meetings.
- Used crisis prevention and de-escalation procedures during challenging behavior, documented 100% of required incident reports, and returned clients to planned activities when safe.
Classroom Support Aide | Oak Ridge Elementary School | Durham, NC | 2018 to 2020
- Assisted 12 students with communication, transitions, classroom routines, and social skills in partnership with special education teachers and related-service staff.
- Used visual prompts, first-then language, modeling, and positive reinforcement during up to 6 daily classroom transitions.
- Logged behavior observations and student support data for teacher review, helping the team identify triggers and replacement responses.
- Trained 3 new classroom aides on documentation routines, confidentiality, and consistent use of student support plans.
Use numbers that you can explain in an interview. Good metrics for this role include clients served, sessions per week, age range, targets tracked, notes completed, caregivers contacted, staff trained, response time, and percentage of accurate or timely documentation. You can also quantify time saved, reduction in missed notes, or improved independence if your records support the claim.
For comparison, a technical resume must name systems and troubleshooting work, while a clinical ABA resume must name interventions, populations, and documentation. The IT Technician resume guide is useful for seeing how tools become evidence in bullets. If you are moving from service work, the Restaurant Server resume guide shows why transferable skills need a role-specific rewrite rather than a copied duty list.
Common aba resume mistakes
Listing duties without proof
“Worked with clients and collected data” says little. State how many clients, how often, what data, which system, and what happened next.
Omitting tools and methods
A hiring manager may need to see CentralReach, Catalyst, session notes, graphing, DTT, NET, FCT, task analysis, or crisis prevention. Include the terms that match your actual background and the posting.
Leaving unrelated language in place
Retail language such as “processed transactions” or “opened and closed the store” distracts from an ABA target unless it fills a work-history gap. A technical resume has the same problem when it keeps clinical language that does not support the target role. Keep transferable evidence, but rewrite it around the job you want.
Claiming missing experience
Do not add a credential, method, platform, population, or result because it appears in the posting. Mark training honestly. For example, write “coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis” instead of implying RBT status.
Using a complicated design
Tables, text boxes, icons, graphics, and multiple columns can make copied text harder to read. Use standard headings such as Summary, Skills, Certifications, Education, and Experience. A clean resume template collection can help if the layout remains simple and readable.
Check the file before you apply
Start with the job description keyword extractor. Paste the job description and compare its must-haves, tools, and nice-to-haves with your draft. The optional PDF scan can mark which terms already appear in your file. Do not add skills you do not have.
Then run the revised file through the ATS resume checker. It scans your PDF against the same pasted job description and reports missing keywords and gaps. Its result is a review aid, not the number used by an employer's ATS.
If you want a draft built from your actual profile facts, YourUnique.cv can use your resume and the target job description to produce a CV and an ATS read against that job. Review every line before submitting it. The file still needs the plain-text test below.
After the resume is ready, open Job Radar to find live ATS career-page roles that fit the same profile. It searches public postings on career pages such as Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and similar systems.

Questions
- What should an aba resume include?
- An aba resume should include your behavior analysis credentials, client population, intervention methods, data collection tools, safety training, caregiver communication, measurable results, and relevant job-title phrases from the posting.
- How do I add ABA keywords without keyword stuffing?
- Place each truthful keyword in a skills block, then use it again in a bullet that proves how you applied it. Do not add tools, credentials, or methods you have not used.
- What is the best file format for an aba resume?
- Use a clean PDF when the portal accepts PDF, unless the posting requests another format. Use standard headings, readable text, simple bullets, and a layout that remains clear when copied into plain text.
- Can a free tool check my aba resume?
- Yes. The [ATS resume checker](https://yourunique.cv/free-tools/ats-resume-checker) compares your uploaded PDF with a pasted job description and reports a match score, missing keywords, and gaps. It is not an employer's Workday or Greenhouse score.
- Where can I find more jobs after finishing my resume?
- After your resume is ready, [Job Radar](https://yourunique.cv/job-radar) can find live public ATS career-page postings that fit your profile, including roles on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and similar sites.
