Customer success manager job requirements from 1,725 live ATS titles: skills, workplace mix, sample evidence, and a practical plan for your next application.

Customer success manager job requirements are easier to act on when you separate repeated skills from posting-specific details. In a live ATS snapshot, the strongest repeated signals were roadmapping, stakeholder management, CRM, Salesforce, and HubSpot. Your next step is to find current openings, compare their exact wording with your evidence, and tailor your CV without claiming experience you do not have.
This article uses a YourUnique.cv Job Radar corpus snapshot from September 15, 2026. The full corpus contained 579,828 active postings. The Customer Success Manager slice contained 1,725 active titles matching that role. The analysis below also uses a random sample of 50 job descriptions from the slice.
What the live snapshot says
The role slice was spread across several workplace types:
| Workplace type | Share of active Customer Success Manager titles |
|---|---|
| Onsite | 28% |
| Hybrid | 38% |
| Remote | 34% |
Location matters before you spend time tailoring. Frequent locations in the slice included the United States, Remote, London, San Francisco, New York, Berlin, London, England, United Kingdom, and New York City. The counts were 65 for the United States, 53 for Remote, 39 for London, 38 for San Francisco, 31 for New York, 22 for Berlin, 22 for London, England, United Kingdom, and 20 for New York City.
The postings came from public ATS career pages. The source counts in this role slice were Greenhouse 618, Ashby 500, Lever 187, Workable 113, SmartRecruiters 96, and Rippling 66. This is useful because it reflects company career pages rather than a LinkedIn scrape.
For a comparison with another role-based live-posting analysis, see Product Manager Job Requirements: What Live ATS Posts Want. The same method helps you distinguish a broad pattern from the exact requirements of one opening.
Repeated skills in the sample
The table shows how often each requirement appeared in the 50 sampled job descriptions. These percentages describe repetition in the sample. They do not define a universal hiring standard.
| Requirement | Share of sampled postings |
|---|---|
| Roadmapping | 36% |
| Stakeholder management | 28% |
| CRM | 18% |
| Salesforce | 16% |
| HubSpot | 12% |
Roadmapping appeared most often. If you have done this work, make it visible in a bullet rather than leaving it buried in a paragraph. State what you planned, who used the plan, and what changed afterward.
Stakeholder management was the next repeated requirement. Your evidence can include coordination across customer-facing or internal groups, decisions made with different priorities, or communication that moved an account or project forward. Use the wording that accurately describes your work.
CRM appeared more broadly than either named CRM platform. That distinction matters. If you have CRM experience but not Salesforce or HubSpot experience, write the general CRM evidence clearly. Do not add Salesforce or HubSpot just because they appear in a posting.
Experience and education language
Years of experience appeared in 72% of the sampled postings. Among postings that stated years, the median was 5. This does not mean every employer requires 5 years. It is a sample pattern, not an employer cutoff. Treat the number as context when you judge your fit, not as a reason to rewrite your history.
Education language was also mixed. Bachelor appeared in 30% of sampled postings. Degree or equivalent appeared in 16%. These figures do not establish a universal degree requirement. Read the individual posting carefully. If it accepts equivalent experience, make your relevant evidence easy to find.

Five bullet patterns that evidence the repeated skills
The examples below use invented metrics to demonstrate structure. Replace every number with a result you can support. These are patterns, not claims to copy as facts.
- Built a quarterly customer roadmapping process for 42 accounts, turning recurring requests into a ranked plan and improving on-time delivery from 71% to 89%.
- Managed stakeholders across customer, product, and operations groups for a portfolio of 60 accounts, resolving priority conflicts and reducing decision delays by 30%.
- Maintained CRM records for 85 active accounts, improving data completeness from 68% to 96% and giving the team a clearer view of renewal activity.
- Used Salesforce to track customer actions, risks, and next steps across 75 accounts, helping reduce overdue follow-ups by 24% over two quarters.
- Used HubSpot reporting to segment 120 customers by engagement level, which helped the team direct outreach and increase completed success reviews by 18%.
A strong bullet has a clear action, a work object, and an outcome. It also names the tool only when you actually used it. If your work did not involve a platform named in the posting, describe the transferable work accurately instead.
How to tailor your CV without keyword stuffing
Start with the live posting, not a generic Customer Success Manager template. Mark each requirement as one of four types: direct evidence, related evidence, no evidence, or unclear. Then revise the sections that need to change.
For direct evidence, use the same accurate term where it fits naturally. For example, if your work involved roadmapping, use “roadmapping” instead of a vague phrase such as “planned improvements.” If your work involved a CRM, name the CRM only when the name is true.
For related evidence, explain the connection in a bullet. A general CRM background can support a CRM requirement. It does not support a claim that you used Salesforce or HubSpot unless you did.
For no evidence, do not add the skill. You can still apply if the overall role is a reasonable fit, but your CV should not imply experience you lack. For unclear items, check your past work and records before deciding how to phrase them.
An optional second check is the job description keyword extractor. Paste one job description and it lists must-haves, tools, and nice-to-haves. You can add your resume PDF to see which keywords are already in the file. It does not tell you to claim skills you do not have.
Scan live openings, then tailor
Use this workflow to turn the snapshot into an application search:
- Open Job Radar and finish your career profile.
- Run Find jobs for me.
- Review Customer Success Manager cards, starting with your preferred city.
- Check whether each role is onsite, hybrid, or remote.
- Confirm that the location appears workable for you.
- Read the full job description on the public career page.
- Mark roadmapping, stakeholder management, CRM, Salesforce, and HubSpot as present, related, absent, or unclear.
- Record any experience or education wording from that specific posting.
- Tailor your summary and strongest bullets around evidence you can support.
- Remove unsupported platform names and inflated results.
- Check the final PDF for readable formatting and accurate dates.
The Radar prefers your city. Remote results remain only when the posting looks hireable in your country. That makes location review part of the search, not a final detail after tailoring.
The free experience includes one promotional search, 10 cards, and 5 readable cards, with the rest locked. Pro includes the first run, daily new unique jobs, up to 50 readable jobs, and Generate CV on a match. On a readable match, Generate CV starts the CV flow from your profile facts. It does not replace your judgment about whether the role fits.
You can create a profile at YourUnique.cv when you are ready to run the search. Keep the profile accurate. The better your source facts, the less cleanup your tailored CV needs.
What to do with one promising posting
When one opening looks suitable, compare its requirements with your evidence line by line. Look for the difference between a broad category and a named tool. “CRM” and “Salesforce” are related, but they are not interchangeable claims.
You can use the ATS resume checker for that single posting. Upload your resume PDF and paste the job description. The checker returns a match score, missing keywords, and gaps. It scans the PDF for the result and does not save it to an account. Its score is a comparison from the tool, not the employer’s ATS number.
