The Enhancv resume checker is useful for finding resume problems before you apply. It is less useful as a single verdict on whether an employer's ATS will accept you. The score is a heuristic, not a Workday, Greenhouse, or other employer system score.

That distinction matters. A checker can compare your document with a job description and inspect its structure. It cannot know the exact parser, screening rules, recruiter habits, or hiring context used for a particular vacancy.

What the Enhancv resume checker scans

Enhancv presents its checker as a way to review resume content, ATS compatibility, and presentation. In practical use, expect the review to focus on several areas:

  • Job-related keywords and skills.
  • Section structure and readability.
  • Dates and work-history consistency.
  • Resume length and density.
  • Formatting choices that may make text harder to parse.
  • Content that appears too general for the target job.

That is a sensible inspection list. A resume checker is good at spotting visible patterns. It is not good at deciding whether a hiring manager will value a particular tradeoff.

For example, a checker may prefer a longer skills section because it detects more terms. A human may prefer a shorter section supported by strong experience bullets. Both views can be reasonable.

The tool may also flag design features that are harmless in a human-readable PDF but risky in a parser. Tables, text boxes, icons, graphics, and unusual columns deserve review. Do not remove a useful section only because a score moved down. First confirm whether the file's text order is broken.

Free versus paid: what to expect

Features and limits can change by plan, region, or product update. Check the current Enhancv screen before paying. The practical difference is usually access to the depth and volume of feedback, not access to an employer's private ATS.

AreaFree access may providePaid access may provideWhat it does not prove
Resume reviewA basic scan or limited feedbackMore detailed recommendations and repeated reviewsThat an employer will assign the same score
Keyword feedbackSome missing or weak termsMore targeted tailoring for a job descriptionThat every suggested term belongs on your resume
FormattingGeneral ATS and layout warningsDeeper guidance or access through a resume-building workflowThat simple formatting always wins with every ATS
Number of checksLimited use, depending on the current planMore checks or broader accessThat more checks produce better judgment
Resume creationAccess may be restricted or separate from checkingPossible access to premium builder featuresThat a generated bullet is accurate without your review

Do not confuse a paid subscription with stronger evidence. Paying may buy convenience, explanations, or more iterations. It does not turn a private score into a hiring company's score.

Sample scoring walkthrough

Use this sample to understand how to review a result. It is a realistic test setup, not a claim about a specific live Enhancv score.

The job description

Assume the role is a Marketing Operations Manager. The description asks for:

  • HubSpot and Salesforce.
  • Lead lifecycle management.
  • Campaign reporting.
  • Marketo experience.
  • SQL or basic data analysis.
  • Cross-functional work with sales.

The resume

The one-page resume says the applicant managed email campaigns, built dashboards, improved lead routing, and worked with sales. It names Salesforce and Google Analytics. It does not name HubSpot, Marketo, SQL, or lead lifecycle management. Dates are shown as “2021” for one role and “03/2022 to Present” for the next role, creating a possible overlap.

A checker might produce feedback in four groups:

FindingIs it useful?What to do
HubSpot, Marketo, and SQL are missingYes, if the applicant has used themAdd the tools only if the applicant can support the claim. Otherwise leave them out and address the gap honestly.
Lead lifecycle management is missingOften usefulRewrite an accurate bullet using the employer's wording if it describes real work.
Dates have inconsistent formats or overlapYesConfirm the dates. Use one format throughout. Explain a real overlap if needed.
Resume is one page with five experience bullets per roleNot automatically a problemKeep the page limit if it preserves relevant evidence. Cut weak text, not useful proof.
“Campaign reporting” is marked weaker than “marketing analytics”MaybeCompare the job's language, then use the clearest accurate phrase. Do not replace normal industry wording just to satisfy a score.

The strong part of this result is the gap detection. Missing software names can matter when the job description treats them as requirements. An odd date can create doubt about your work history. Those are worth checking manually.

The weak part is treating every mismatch as a defect. A one-page resume can be the right choice for an early-career applicant. “Pipeline reporting,” “funnel analysis,” and “campaign performance reporting” may describe related work in different companies. The best phrase is the one that is accurate and understandable, not necessarily the one that produces the largest score increase.

What the score over-weights

Exact keyword matches

A checker can reward the exact phrase “lead lifecycle management” while giving less credit to a clear explanation such as “managed leads from capture through sales handoff.” Exact terms help when they are true, but keyword matching is not the same as competence.

Use the employer's wording where it fits naturally. Add a short synonym when useful. Do not copy a job description into a skills block or add tools you have never used.

Resume length

Some checkers prefer more detail because more text creates more opportunities for matches. That can punish a clean one-page resume. Page count should follow experience, relevance, and readability. A longer document with repeated bullets is not automatically stronger.

Conventional headings

“Professional Experience,” “Education,” and “Skills” are easy for many parsers to recognize. Creative headings can add personality, but they create more uncertainty. This is a reasonable warning, not a law. If you use a less common heading, make its purpose obvious.

Design simplicity

Simple formatting reduces parsing risk. Still, a warning about columns or a small visual element does not tell you whether the actual PDF text extracts correctly. Test the file. Do not redesign by score alone.

Use the score, do not worship it

Run the file through the ATS resume checker. Upload the resume PDF and paste the job description. It reports a match score, missing keywords, and gaps. The PDF is scanned for the result and is not saved to an account. The score is not a Workday or Greenhouse number.

Then paste the same job into YourUnique.cv if you want a draft based on your real profile. It can tailor a CV from your resume, optional LinkedIn URL, and job description. Review every line before using it.

Follow this workflow:

  1. Save the original resume before changing anything.
  2. Run the checker and record the findings, not only the score.
  3. Separate missing terms into three groups: skills you have, concepts you have done, and gaps you do not have.
  4. Add accurate terms to relevant bullets or the skills section.
  5. Standardize dates, headings, and contact information.
  6. Remove repeated claims and unsupported keywords.
  7. Export a fresh PDF.
  8. Copy the PDF text into Notepad or another plain-text editor.
  9. Check the reading order. Your name, headings, employers, dates, and bullets should appear in a sensible sequence.
  10. Recheck the final version against the job description.

A score increase is useful when it reflects a real improvement. A score increase caused by keyword stuffing is not.

Should you pay for Enhancv?

Pay for an ATS checker when you need repeated reviews across several applications, want guided explanations, or find it difficult to identify gaps yourself. It can save time during a focused job search.

Skip the paid plan when you are applying to one or two roles, already know your resume is text-readable, or only need to confirm basic keyword coverage. A free checker plus a plain-text paste test may cover that need.

You can also build a tailored version with YourUnique.cv's trial, then compare the result with the job description yourself. Treat its ATS read as guidance, just as you should treat Enhancv's score. If layout is your main concern, review the available resume templates and keep the final file easy to parse.

Apply today checklist

  • Export one clean PDF with a clear filename.
  • Use standard headings for experience, education, and skills.
  • Confirm that every listed skill is accurate and supported.
  • Rewrite five high-value bullets around the target job's work.
  • Standardize dates and check for unexplained gaps or overlaps.
  • Run the final file through the ATS resume checker.
  • Paste the PDF text into Notepad and inspect the reading order.
  • Review the resume as a person, not only as a score.

Questions

Is the Enhancv resume checker score the same score an employer sees?
No. The Enhancv score is a proprietary or heuristic assessment. Employers use different ATS products, settings, parsing rules, and recruiter review processes, so no public checker can prove an employer score.
What can the Enhancv resume checker find?
It can help identify missing job-related terms, formatting concerns, unclear dates, and content gaps. Treat those findings as prompts to review your resume, not automatic instructions to change every item.
Should I pay for an ATS resume checker?
Pay when you apply often, need structured feedback, and will revise several applications. If you only need to check whether text survives parsing, a free plain-text paste test may be enough.
What is a free alternative to compare my resume with a job description?
The [ATS resume checker](https://yourunique.cv/free-tools/ats-resume-checker) accepts a resume PDF and job description, then reports a match score, missing keywords, and gaps. It is not a Workday or Greenhouse score.
Can YourUnique.cv write a resume from a job description?
[YourUnique.cv](https://yourunique.cv) can use your resume or LinkedIn URL, profile facts, and a job description to create a tailored CV. It does not invent experience, and its ATS read is still an assessment against that job description, not an employer's ATS result.
