Resumatic ATS Checker: How to Test, Read the Score, and Fix What Matters
Use a resumatic ats checker to test keywords, sections, dates, contact fields, and file type, then repair your resume without chasing a vanity score.

A resumatic ats checker can help you find resume problems before you apply. Use it as a repair tool, not as a pass or fail judge. Compare your resume with the exact job description, correct missing or unreadable information, and then run the test again.
The number matters less than the evidence behind it. A higher result is useful only when your resume is still accurate, readable, and tailored to the role.
How to run the test
Prepare two files or pieces of text:
- Your current resume, preferably the same PDF you plan to submit.
- The full job description, including responsibilities, requirements, tools, and qualifications.
Upload the resume and paste the job description into the resumatic ATS checker you choose. If the tool accepts only certain file types, follow that instruction. Do not test a Word file and submit a different PDF without checking the final version.
Record four things from the result:
- The overall score.
- Missing keywords or skills.
- Sections the tool could not identify.
- Any file, contact, date, or parsing warnings.
The score is a comparison aid. It is not an employer's Workday or Greenhouse number, and a public checker is not the same system an employer runs. Different tools read files and calculate results in different ways.
For a second opinion, the Best ATS Resume Checker guide explains how to compare tool results without treating any single number as a hiring decision.
What typical checkers measure
| Area | What the checker may inspect | What you should verify yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Keywords | Terms from the job description, including skills, tools, certifications, and job functions | The important terms appear truthfully and in the right work context |
| Sections | Headings such as Summary, Experience, Education, Skills, and Certifications | Each section is clearly named and contains the expected information |
| Dates | Month and year patterns, chronology, and consistency | Every role has readable dates, with no unexplained gaps or conflicting timelines |
| Contact fields | Name, email, phone, location, and links | These fields are real text, easy to find, and not placed only in a header or image |
| File type | Whether the upload is PDF, DOCX, or another accepted format | The submitted file opens correctly and preserves selectable text |
| Text order | Whether columns, tables, text boxes, icons, or headers produce sensible reading order | Copy the file into plain text and check that the sequence still makes sense |
A checker can flag a missing phrase. It cannot decide whether a phrase belongs in your resume. You still need to judge accuracy and relevance.
Read the score by area, not as a verdict
Start with the job's must-have requirements. Separate them from repeated preferences and generic language. A resume with many general keywords may receive a better-looking result while still missing the one certification, tool, or work function the hiring team needs.
Next, inspect where each important term appears. A keyword in a skills list is useful, but a keyword in an experience bullet is stronger evidence when you can support it. For example, “Salesforce” alone says little. “Managed Salesforce opportunity stages for 80 active accounts” provides context, if that statement is true.
Then inspect the sections. A missing section warning may mean the section is absent, or it may mean the heading is unusual. “Career History” may be understandable to a person, but “Professional Experience” is more predictable for a parser. Use simple, standard headings.
Date problems need a manual check. Use a consistent format such as May 2021 to March 2024 or 05/2021 to 03/2024. Do not mix formats without a reason. Make sure dates are text, not part of a graphic. If you use “Present,” use it consistently for your current role.
Contact fields deserve the same attention. Put your name, phone, email, city and state or country, and relevant professional link in the body of the document. Headers and footers can be read differently across systems. A plain text contact line near the top is safer.
The ATS Resume Scanner guide covers the same inspection process in more detail, including the plain-text test.
Before and after: a scored sample
The following numbers are illustrative. They demonstrate how to read a result. They are not employer thresholds or a promise that a specific checker uses these exact calculations.
| Check | Before | Repair | After |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall checker result | 54 | Corrected missing job terms and parsing issues | 82 |
| Must-have skills found in context | 3 of 7 | Added truthful examples to experience bullets | 7 of 7 |
| Sections identified | 4 of 6 | Changed “Career Story” to “Professional Experience” and added Certifications | 6 of 6 |
| Dates read correctly | 2 of 4 roles | Replaced graphic timeline with text dates | 4 of 4 |
| Contact fields found | Email only | Moved phone and location into body text | All key fields found |
| Plain-text order | Skills appeared before name | Removed two-column layout | Logical order |
Before
Career Story
2021 to Present, Customer Success Manager
- Salesforce, renewals, onboarding, analytics
- Helped customers and worked with product
Tools
Salesforce, Gainsight, Excel
The job description required customer onboarding, renewal forecasting, Gainsight, Salesforce, account health reviews, and cross-functional communication. The sample mentions some terms, but the experience bullets do not explain the work. The graphic date format also causes a parsing problem.
After
Professional Experience
Customer Success Manager, Northstar Software
May 2021 to Present
- Managed onboarding for 35 mid-market customers using Salesforce and Gainsight, reducing average time to first value by 18%.
- Built renewal forecasts and reviewed account health each month, helping the team prioritize at-risk accounts.
- Partnered with Product and Support on customer issues and communicated action plans to account stakeholders.
Skills
Customer onboarding, renewal forecasting, account health reviews, Salesforce, Gainsight, Excel, cross-functional communication
The revised version does not repeat terms at random. It places the tools and job functions in accurate work examples. If the applicant did not perform renewal forecasting or account health reviews, those terms must stay out. Never repair a gap by claiming experience you do not have.
Use a repair loop
Change one category at a time. If you change the layout, keywords, headings, and dates together, you will not know which repair solved the issue.
- Run the current resume and exact job description.
- Save the result or write down the warnings.
- Fix the most important real problem, such as a missing must-have skill you already use.
- Re-scan the same resume version.
- Check whether the warning changed.
- Move to the next issue.
Run the file through the ATS resume checker, then paste the same job into YourUnique.cv if you want a draft based on your real profile. The Free Tools page returns a match score, missing keywords, and gaps. It does not rewrite your CV. The paid product can create a CV from profile facts and provide an ATS read against the job. Neither result is an employer's system score.
Stop when the text paste-back is clean, the main sections are identified, and the job's must-have skills you genuinely possess appear in context. Do not keep editing to chase a perfect number. Extra repetition can make the document harder to read.
Ten-item ATS repair checklist
- Upload the exact PDF you plan to submit, or confirm the final file type accepted by the employer.
- Paste the complete job description, not only the short summary.
- Identify must-have skills, tools, certifications, and job functions.
- Add only skills and terms that your actual experience supports.
- Use standard headings such as Summary, Professional Experience, Skills, Education, and Certifications.
- Put your name, email, phone, location, and relevant link in selectable body text.
- Use one readable date format for every role, education entry, and certification.
- Replace image-based text, decorative icons, and complex timelines with plain text.
- Check that at least five experience bullets explain actions, tools, and results where accurate.
- Re-scan after each meaningful change, then run a plain-text paste test before applying.
Other tools and their limits
Jobscan and Resume Worded can help compare a resume with a job description and identify possible improvements. They cannot prove how an employer's hiring system will score the document. Canva can help create a visually designed resume, but a design that looks good may still produce poor text order or unreadable contact fields. ChatGPT can help rewrite a bullet or identify repeated terms, but it can also invent details unless you check every line against your work history.
Use any checker as one inspection step. The final decision is whether a hiring team can quickly find accurate evidence for the job.

- The headings are standard and easy to find.
- The relevant skills from the job appear accurately in your resume.
- At least five strong bullets explain relevant work, tools, or results.
- You copied the final file into plain text and the order stayed readable.

Apply with the clean, accurate version. Keep the checker result as a diagnostic record, not as a guarantee.
Questions
- What does a resumatic ATS checker score mean?
- A resumatic ATS checker score is a diagnostic estimate based on factors such as keyword coverage, sections, dates, contact fields, and file parsing. It is not the score produced by an employer's Workday, Greenhouse, or other hiring system.
- What should I fix first after running an ATS checker?
- Fix missing must-have skills that you genuinely have, unclear section headings, contact fields, inconsistent dates, and file or parsing problems. Do not add skills or experience you cannot support.
- Can a free ATS checker prove that an employer will read my resume?
- No. A free checker can identify text, keywords, gaps, and common formatting problems. It cannot prove how a particular employer's hiring system will process or rank your resume.
- Where can I run a resume and job description together?
- Use the [ATS resume checker](https://yourunique.cv/free-tools/ats-resume-checker) to upload a resume PDF and paste a job description. It returns a match score, missing keywords, and gaps. The PDF is scanned for the result and is not saved to an account.
- Can YourUnique.cv help rewrite a resume for a job?
- Yes. [YourUnique.cv](https://yourunique.cv) can use your resume, optional LinkedIn URL, and a job description or job link to create a CV from your profile facts, then provide an ATS read against that job.
