Use the job description as your source. Match its real tools, processes, certifications, and quality language. Then prove each important skill in your experience bullets. Do not add a tool or certification you have not used.

Hiring managers usually scan for evidence of:

Only use terms that describe your real experience. If a posting asks for soldering and you have never soldered, do not copy the word into your resume. You can address it in an interview or learn it before applying, but the resume must remain accurate.

Separate technical abilities from work habits. This makes the section easier to scan and keeps the most important tools visible.

Do not use a long generic list. Select the skills that match the job. If the employer names “torque wrench,” use that phrase instead of only writing “tools.”

Use a clear header with your name, location, phone, email, and a professional LinkedIn URL if you have one. Do not place key contact details in a header or footer that may not parse correctly.

Notice how the bullets repeat key ideas without copying the same sentence. The skills section names the tools. The bullets prove where, how, and why you used them. Metrics cover output, error rate, overtime, training, attendance, and certifications.

Start with an action verb. Name the product, process, tool, or document. Add a result when you can support it. “Helped with assembly” gives little evidence. “Built 140 units per shift using torque drivers and a visual inspection checklist” gives the reader something to assess.
Common assembler resume mistakes
Listing duties without proof
A list of routine tasks does not explain your level. Add volume, accuracy, cycle time, rework, inspection findings, or training where those figures are true.
Omitting tools
“Worked in manufacturing” is too broad. Name the hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, fixtures, software, or scanning systems you used.
Treating every production job as identical
Separate assembly, inspection, machine operation, packaging, and warehouse work. This helps the reader see which experience transfers to the opening.
Leaving retail language on a technical resume
Words such as “served customers” and “managed register” may distract from an assembler application unless the experience also proves attendance, accuracy, or teamwork. Rewrite transferable work around the target job, but do not pretend retail work was manufacturing.
Leaving technical language on a retail resume
If you are applying to retail after a technical role, do not make the resume read like a machine operator profile. Keep the relevant safety, reliability, and customer-facing evidence. Tailor each version to the job.
Hiding certifications
Put relevant certifications near the skills section or in a separate certifications section. Include the credential name, issuer if useful, and date or expiration when requested.

Keep headings simple. Use a standard font, readable spacing, and a PDF unless the portal asks for another format. Avoid text boxes, icons, photos, charts, and columns that can interfere with parsing.
