How to run the check

Use the job post you will actually answer. A generic software engineer resume can produce a misleading result because it may contain broad skills while missing the language for this role.

How to read the score without chasing it

Start with the report’s details, not the headline number. Ask four questions.

1. Are the must-have skills present?

Look for exact terms from the job post when they truthfully describe your background. For example, if the post requires Python, AWS, PostgreSQL, and REST APIs, your experience section should contain those terms near real work. A skills section alone is weaker evidence than a bullet that explains what you built or improved.

Do not add Kubernetes because a checker listed it as missing if you have never used it. You can leave the gap, address related experience accurately, or decide the role is not a fit.

2. Is each skill in context?

Compare these bullets:

The second bullet gives the checker useful terms. It also gives a recruiter scope, tools, and a work context. Only use it if those facts are true. A keyword list that says Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, AWS without evidence may improve a number while weakening the resume.

3. Are sections easy to identify?

Use familiar headings such as Summary, Skills, Professional Experience, Projects, and Education. Avoid placing key details inside images, charts, icons, or decorative text boxes. Keep your name and contact details in the main document body when possible. Some systems handle headers and footers poorly.

4. Can the text be read in the right order?

Select all text in the PDF and paste it into a plain-text editor. Check whether the name comes first, followed by contact details, summary, skills, experience, and education. A two-column design may paste one column above the other, mixing dates and bullets. If the result is confusing, simplify the layout.

Assume the job post asks for Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Docker, AWS, PostgreSQL, automated testing, and five years of experience.

The change from 58 to 82 does not mean the candidate is 82 percent likely to get an interview. It means this checker found stronger coverage and cleaner text after the repairs. Another checker may produce another number. The employer may use a different system and review process.

The repair loop

Use a controlled loop instead of changing the entire resume at once.

1. Run the first scan and save the result.
2. Pick one issue, such as a missing supported skill.
3. Edit one section or one bullet.
4. Re-scan the same PDF against the same job description.
5. Note whether the gap changed and whether the text still reads correctly.
6. Repeat for sections, dates, contact fields, and file structure.
7. Stop when the must-have skills appear in honest context and the plain-text paste is clean.

This method tells you which change helped. It also prevents score chasing. If a strange synonym raises the score but makes the bullet inaccurate, remove it.

• Add only supported skills that match your real work, projects, or education.
• Put important skills in a relevant experience or project bullet, not only in a keyword list.

• Move your name, email, phone, location, and links into selectable document text.
• Standardize dates across every role, such as June 2021 to August 2024.
• Remove unnecessary icons, graphics, text boxes, and complex column layouts.
• Export to the file type requested by the employer, and confirm the PDF text can be selected.
• Re-scan the same file, then paste all text into a plain-text editor to verify reading order.
